Ecoregions and Local Ecotype
We recommend using only local ecotype plants for plantings in natural areas.
Our ecoregions of 58, 59, 64 and 67 are local to the Hudson valley and northern NJ. 84 is coastal. Often local ecotype plants will perform better that those sourced from outside the region.
Ecoregion of 999 means Unknown/Nursery source. We recommend using these plants for gardens. You will notice that the ecotypic plants are slightly higher prices than the nursery source plants which reflects the extra work that goes into finding local sources of seeds, collecting and processing them.
Over time we hope to discontinue growing 999 plants.
